Have you ever wondered why you always feel happy after eating chocolate? Of course, the primary answer is that it's because you've eaten something delicious. The real reason, however, is the fact that cocoa contains theobromine and tryptophan (the amino acid responsible for serotonin production), which are at the heart of its stimulating effect and mood-lifting properties.

And because we want all our readers to feel good, today we're sharing a super easy and quick recipe for healthy dark chocolate and orange donuts from culinary blogger Ilona Zdravkova.

Preparation time for 6 pieces of happiness: approximately 20 minutes.

Ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 100g natural skyr
  • freshly squeezed juice from 1 orange
  • 150g brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Dragon Superfoods organic cocoa powder
  • 20g Dragon Superfoods organic carob flour
  • 50g whole wheat flour
  • 30g melted Dragon Superfoods dark chocolate drops
  • orange zest for decoration
We note that if desired, you can substitute dark chocolate with milk chocolate. Keep in mind, however, that during processing, the nutrients in chocolate (antioxidants, proteins, vitamins, and minerals) and their quality significantly decrease. This means that the nutritional value of milk chocolate is much lower than that of dark chocolate.

Method of preparation:
Whisk the egg together with the skyr and sugar in a large bowl that has the capacity to hold all the ingredients listed above. Add the freshly squeezed orange juice, then the Dragon Superfoods cocoa powder, Dragon Superfoods carob flour, and gradually the whole wheat flour. Mix everything until a thick homogeneous mixture is obtained.

Why do we use carob flour in addition to just one type of flour? Besides being low in calories and free of unnecessary fats, carob flour is rich in calcium (three times more than cocoa), magnesium, potassium, trace elements: iron, copper, nickel, manganese and chromium, as well as vitamins: B1, B2 and A. In other words, carob flour significantly increases the nutritional value of our dessert.

Distribute the mixture evenly into donut molds and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 13-15 minutes, being careful not to let them burn.

Once removed from the oven, drizzle them with melted Dragon Superfoods dark chocolate drops and decorate with the remaining orange zest. Wait for them to cool and enjoy them with family, friends, or by yourself, guilt-free.
