What is textured protein/Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) and how is it produced?

Textured protein is a vegan meat alternative, made from pea protein, fava bean (black bean) protein, and a pinch of salt. It does not contain soy, flavorings, or allergens.

TVP has a neutral taste and easily absorbs the aromas and flavors of the dish during cooking. The different textures of the plant protein make it extremely suitable for preparing a variety of savory dishes.

Product manufacturing mechanics:

Water, salt, and fava bean protein are added to the pea protein powder, after which the ready mixture is pressed and left to dehydrate. It then undergoes shaping into the desired product texture, passes all necessary quality checks, and reaches the end consumer.

How to use:

Textured pea protein needs to be rehydrated. Pour hot water over the desired amount of product in a 1:2 ratio and leave for a few minutes until the product softens and absorbs the water. It can then be added to a wide variety of dishes: sauces for moussaka, spaghetti, burgers, meatballs, stews, stuffed peppers, tacos, etc.

Textured protein nuggets are a product in the form of large pieces, similar to chunks of meat. They are suitable in combination with vegetables in sweet and sour sauce, with rice, and many other options.
